Dawn Newton cycles with her family and supports the idea of bike lanes in Edmonton, but believes we need to ensure traffic flow is properly considered. Done well, bike lanes can provide a safe, healthy and environmentally friendly option for Edmontonians. Where the downtown bike grid project is lacking, however, is data on the use of bike lanes and the impacts on traffic. Of particular interest will be the usage during the upcoming winter months and the city’s ability to address snow removal. Edmonton’s bike lanes need a made-in-Edmonton solution that takes into consideration our status as a winter city and makes sure we use our infrastructure dollars wisely.
